In-Person Field Day with Ray Archuleta and Alejandro Carrillo

June 21 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

In collaboration with our Farm and Food program, we are excited to announce this in-person experience for producers in our region. Please join us for an intensive seminar, out in the field with world-class speakers to learn how holistic planned grazing and cover crops can build soil and bring better life back to production ground.

Guest Speakers:

  • Ray Archuleta, Certified Professional Soil Scientist with the Soil Science Society of America. Ray has over 30 years of experience as a Soil Conservationist, Water Quality Specialist, and Conservation Agronomist with NRCS. After his retirement from the NRCS in 2017, Ray founded Understanding Ag, LLC, and Soil Health Academy, to teach Biomimicry strategies and Agroecology principles for improving soil function on a national scale. Ray also owns and operates a 150-acre farm near Seymour, Missouri that he operates along with his wife and family.

  • Alejandro Carrillo, President of Pasticultores del Desierto, a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide ongoing education for cattle ranchers as well as promote Holistic Planned Grazing across the world’s deserts. Since 2006, he adopted the principles of Holistic Planned Grazing Management to his ranch. The change from continuous grazing to planned grazing brought many challenges as well as positive results, such as being able to increase his carrying capacity 3 times while lowering his inputs. The first thing for Alejandro was to educate himself on holistic, regenerative, and profitable ways of ranching in sync with Nature. He and his colleagues traveled to Argentina, Africa, Australia, and the US to learn from successful ranchers.
